EUSR Category 1: Locate Utility Services

This course is designed for experienced operatives with an active knowledge of utility operations and excavating practices who will be required to identify, detect and mark utility services prior to excavating. The course covers the minimum training and assessment required for those working to safely detect utility services using recognised and approved detection methods.

Registration with EUSR lasts for 3 years following successful completion of your training and assessment, after which time a short refresher can be taken to renew.

Our training courses have both practical and theory elements, so all candidates should have good English verbal and writing skills.

• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and official guidance regarding excavation work, e.g., HSG47 HSWA
• Know how to determine the work location using company documentation/work instructions
• Extract relevant information from drawings, site plans, RAMS, schedules, user guide information
• Comply with information, instructions devised from temporary works, RAMS, utility drawings, line search docs, permits to work
• Understand responsibilities regarding health hazards when working in/or around excavations
• Know the risk of damage to work services and surrounding areas
• Ensure a safe system of work has been implemented for the work location/activity
• Know how to correctly prepare locating equipment to complete work activity
• Know how to use electronic locating equipment in conjunction with utility plans
• Understand danger associated when working near underground/overhead services
• Fully understand the necessity of operating sweep/search techniques
• Demonstrate correct observation, monitoring, recording, reporting procedure or any unexpected findings before, during the work activity

Revision and additional practice time will be available to all candidates. Our training centre environment reflects an actual construction site and has state of the art welfare and classroom facilities ensuring candidates have a relaxed and enjoyable experience whilst training and testing.
